Furnace Installation, Repair, and Maintenance

If your furnace is blowing cold air, refusing to turn on, or making loud noises, give Unified Comfort Systems a call, our technicians are able to investigate, diagnose, and treat any furnace related problems!

What types of Furnaces can Unified Comfort Systems restore and repair?

  • Gas Furnaces – Also referred to as Combustion Furnaces - One of the most popular types of heating systems in Ohio, about 63% of homes use a gas furnace. Gas furnaces use natural gas and combustion to create heat and then distribute it throughout the home in ventilation ducts.  These types of furnaces use a burner, or pilot light, to ignite fuel, inside of a combustion chamber.  The heat then flows over a heat exchanger, which helps to separate the heat from the gasses that created it, and the warm air is released into the home.

  • Electric Furnaces – As the name implies, these use electricity to generate heat via electrical resistance.  Advances to energy efficiency and rising costs of natural gas have rocketed electric furnaces to the second most popular type of furnace in Ohio.  About 26% of homes in Ohio use an electric furnace as their home heating solution.  Not to be confused with an electric heater, which are portable, electric furnaces are not mobile and are a semi-permanent type of appliance, only moved when swapping out old units beyond repair.

  • Heat Pumps - These are devices that can produce either heated or cooled air, and have a setting for summer and winter.  Heat pumps consist of two parts, one is indoors and the other is outside.  During the heating process, a heat pump uses the principles of thermodynamics and a refrigeration cycle to move heat, instead of creating it, like a more traditional furnace.  Heat is drawn from the outdoor unit and evaporates a refrigerant at low pressures, a compressor then increases the pressure on the refrigerant, causing temps to rise.  Hot refrigerant moves to the indoor unit where it condenses, releasing heat inside via a coil.  In cooling mode, this process reverses.

  • Boilers - These use a fuel source, whether natural gas, propane, or electricity, to boil water that is then distributed via pipes to radiators, which radiate heat from the boiled water moving through them.  The water then cycles back to the boiler where it is heated again and redistributed.  Boilers are an efficient type of heat source and come in 3 main types: Fire-Tube Boilers, Water-Tube Boilers, and Combination Boilers that use a bit of both.

A Heater VS a Furnace

It should be noted that heaters and furnaces are not quite the same thing, even though the words are used interchangeably.  While a furnace is part of your HVAC, and part of your heating system, a heater is not necessarily included, but could be.  So all furnaces are heaters, but not all heaters are furnaces!

Air Conditioning Installation, Repair, and Upkeep

If your Air Conditioner is blowing hot air, leaking, frozen, or making rattling and loud noises, Unified Comfort Systems is here for you!  Our HVAC Comfort Professionals will inspect, diagnose, and treat any of your home or light commercial air conditioner problems!

What types of Air Conditioners can Unified Comfort Systems repair and maintain?

  • Central Air Conditioners This is the main type of residential air conditioning unit that we maintain and repair.  They're the most common residential type of air conditioning unit, the other most common being a window unit, which are usually replaced rather than repaired.  Central air units are one piece air conditioners that pull warm inside air over coils filled with refrigerant to cool and dehumidify and then redistribute the air through the house.  Hot air is vented to the outdoors, and the cycle continues.

  • Split Package Air Conditioners These are a highly popular light-commercial type of air conditioning that use an indoor and an outdoor unit to accomplish cooling.  The outdoor and indoor unit work to convert warm refrigerant gas into a cooled liquid state, in what is called a Phase Change.  This converts the most thermal energy at one time by constantly changing the state of a conductive medium from liquid to gas using pressure and valves.  As the medium is forced from one state to another, thermal energy is rapidly lost, resulting in cooling, and Phase Change cooling is the best type when it comes to efficiency!

  • Mini Split Air Conditioners - These are smaller, home-sized, versions of split package air conditioners.  They consist of at least two units, an indoor evaporator and an outdoor condenser.  There can be more than one indoor unit installed, so that one room may be kept at a different temperature than another room, or different from the rest of the home, referred to as zoned heating and cooling.  Features like variable speeds, and temperature controls give mini-splits a higher Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) than traditional HVAC systems.

Ventilation Maintenance and Repair

If your home has stale or stuffy air, lingering odors, or excess humidity, there may be a problems with your ventilation or air filtration.  Our HVAC Professionals will inspect, diagnose, and restore issues with your Ventilation, Air Filtration, and HVAC System

Ventilation that is under-performing - May have holes, damage, or were improperly installed - These can lead to temperature issues inside because the treated air is escaping before it can reach its destination in your home or office.  Indoor air quality will be effected and may be stuffy in the summer months or cold and dry in the winter months.

Ventilation that is blocked - Dust, dander, and debris - Can be causing issues to those inside who may have health problems or breathing trouble. Those who have asthma, require oxygen, or those who suffer from allergies have the most to gain by having their ventilation ducts cleaned and cleared.  Indoor air quality is again effected because of an improper exchange of air due to blocked ducts.

We use the MeasureQuick Software Platform combined with TrueFlow Airflow Measurement Tools to accurately and quickly test for more than 100 different faults in your Ventilation - ensuring that nothing is missed!  This reduces the need for follow-up visits and keeps our customers happy with our service!  Our software will also generate a report that explains on-going issues to customers in an easy-to-understand format.  No problem is missed and everything is explained.  Unified Comfort Systems simply wants the best for our HVAC Customers and this combination of software and tools is what sets us apart from the competition as the Best HVAC Company in Akron and North Canton.

Indoor Humidity Control

Moisture build up on cool surfaces in the summer and a shocking amount of static electricity during the winter months are signs that your humidity is out of control.  Call our HVAC Professionals to Diagnose, Repair, and Balance your indoor humidity - be comfortable year round.

High Humidity - When temperatures are high, the air is able to hold more water vapor, and the humidity rises.  Too much humidity and the air feels sticky or muggy.  It can be harder to catch your breath, and you'll also overheat more easily.  A dehumidifier will remove water vapor from the air and condense it into water which can then be drained.

Low Humidity - Colder air is not able to hold onto water vapor like warm air does, and this causes a drop in humidity levels as the temperature falls.  Low humidity results in static electricity build up while indoors, and can cause dry coughs and a tickle in your throat.  A humidifier will release steam into the air inside to restore some of the lost humidity due to low temperatures.

Temperature Perception - As temperature and humidity rise, the perception of the temperature rises above the actual temperature, its called the Heat Index.  If you know the humidity and the temperature, you can plot the heat index with a little help from calculators online.  An example would be: At 90 degrees F, and 55% humidity, the Heat Index, or the perceived temperature is 97 degrees Fahrenheit.  The average best comfort level of indoor humidity is between 40 and 60 Percent.

Our Professional HVAC Technicians will measure your humidity and make changes to your HVAC system to assist with proper indoor humidity controls, ensuring maximum comfort.  Using our TrueFlow Systems and MeasureQuick software stack, we're able to measure over 100 different parameters within just one minute!  These systems use advanced and automated calculations to reduce the risk of error and to provide the technician with quick and accurate information about humidity controls.
